What is the correct way to install Joplin on Linux?

Hello all,

As i'm not really familiar with Linux, i'm a bit confused.. I installed Joplin as a Flatpak via Discover on Kubuntu, everything is working fine.

I noticed I was running a 3.5 version, so I press check for update and it downloaded a 3.6 version, but it wouldn't install as it was a appimage download.

This got me digging and I noticed there is a Snap version available on Discover, there is the flatpak which hasn't received a update in a while, then on Joplin webpage there is the Linux button I can press to download a appimage, but further down in the text they say the best way to install on Linux is via this command

wget -O - https://raw.githubusercontent.com/laurent22/joplin/dev/Joplin_install_and_update.sh | bash

Is it just me or is this confusing? it seems to me aswell that I can't update Joplin through Discover which updates every other app I got, if I install via this terminal command.

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know if Pocketbook devices ever receive major OS version upgrades during their lifespan?

I’ve noticed that there are two Pocketbook Note models with Android—one running Android 11 and the other Android 12.

I’m considering Android because I want to use eReolen, the local library app, which requires at least Android 11. However, I’m a bit concerned about the app’s longevity if it updates and starts requiring Android 12 or 13 in the future.

Also, is it a bad idea to buy a "Note" device if I only want to read? It seems like Android is only available on the Note models.

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to buy an e-reader, but the options are overwhelming and the requirements are a bit confusing.

I need a device that:

  • Isn’t locked into a single ecosystem like Kindle,
  • Supports multiple file formats,
  • Allows purchases from different bookstores,
  • Lets me transfer books from my phone and/or PC.

Here’s the catch: my local library only has an Android app (and isn’t partnered with Libby), and Mofibo (a Danish e-book service) also only offers an Android app. So, I think the e-reader needs to run Android.

I’ve been considering the PocketBook Color Note, which runs Android 12. But I’m worried:

  • Is Android 12 too old? (Phones are almost at Android 17 now.)
  • Is it still good for reading, even though it’s called a "Note"?
  • Will it last for years, given my library requires Android 8 and Mofibo requires Android 11?

I also looked at Tolino, but it doesn’t run Android, so I wouldn’t be able to use the apps I need.

Will the pocketbook get yearly android OS updates like a phone`

Any suggestions or insights?

Hello,

i'm in the process of moving away from Microsoft with word and onedrive. currently i'm using Nextcloud for syncing so I can access my story on my phone using Collabora.

However, writing bigger documents (stories) that are hundreds of pages I absolutely need to have the feature word has which is "continue where you left off" or else i'm scrolling around like an idiot, trying to find where I last was.

also, zooming in on phone is very annoying, it literally zooms in, instead of doing what word does, where the letters get bigger and adapt. with collabora I gotta slide to the left and right all the time be able to read the sentence, since i'm so zoomed in.

marking works/sentences is also a pain, it's not "live" you can't see where you're dragging and it's a hit and miss.

Gotta say though, generally impressed with Collabora, but I can't make the transition without these things, especially the "continue where you left off"

Hoping to see these features soon, have a great day :)
