Hackleburg-Phil Campbell Damage Photos (Revised)

Damage photos associated with the Hackleburg-Phil Campbell EF5. This tornado has (informally) oscillated from underrated, to overrated, and back to underrated.

1.) Before-and-after image of devastation along Clay Street, in Hackleburg. Nearly all trees and other foliage have been wiped away, and muddy scouring is apparent. A mangled car sits beneath an uprooted and denuded tree at center-right.

2.) In Hackleburg: a wide swath of muddy scouring. Uprooted and denuded trees and windrowed debris from homes litter the scene.

3.) Extreme windrowing of debris from destroyed home east of Phil Campbell. Extreme vegetation damage and scouring is apparent at bottom left.

4.) An area scoured to mud in Hackleburg. A denuded tree stands at right.

5.) In Hackleburg: a mangled car resting amidst debris and destroyed vegetation.

6.) A swept foundation in Hackleburg, with a portion of the concrete seemingly ripped away (at left). Grass appears to have been scoured away in the foreground, and extreme debarking and denuding of vegetation is apparent in the background.

7.) In Hackleburg: extreme vegetation damage, including uprooted, denuded, and completely debarked trees.

8.) In Hackleburg, near Clay Street: a mangled, mud-splattered car tossed among shredded and partially debarked vegetation near a home.

9.) Remains of the Wrangler Jeans Plant, in Hackleburg. At top: mangled cars rest atop a mound of broken concrete, steel beams and other debris. At bottom: a mangled car lays atop a completely debarked shrub. A mess of steel trusses is visible in the background, with partial ground scouring visible in the foreground.

10.) Partially debarked and shredded trees in the Wrangler Jeans Parking lot. The pavement appears to have been splattered with mud and was potentially pockmarked by incredibly fast-moving debris.

11.) A swath of scoured pavement along Wyatt Drive, in Phil Campbell. Chalk lines have been drawn in increments to measure the length scoured, visible in the foreground. Extreme vegetation damage is apparent in the background.

12.) A mangled vehicle tossed in Oak Grove.

13.) Swept foundation in Mt Hope, with a portion upheaved at left. It’s possible a column was present at that portion and heaved it up while being ripped away. Denuded and partially debarked trees are visible in the background.

14.) A swath of partially scoured pavement in Hackleburg, indicated by chalk lines at center. The remains of what appears to be a broken foundation lay in the background, with chunks scattered in the foreground.

15.) The remains of a home in Hackleburg: a basement filled with debris, possibly from adjacent homes. Shredded and uprooted trees and muddy scouring are apparent.

16.) A foundation swept bare in Phil Campbell. Destroyed vegetation and scoured grass encompass the area.

17.) Debarked and shredded trees in Hackleburg, near the Wrangler plant. A debarked shrub is visible at bottom right.

18.) A cracked foundation in Hackleburg.

19.) Mass uprooting of trees east of Phil Campbell, along Smith Road. Two homes at top left have been wiped away, their debris granulated and windrowed. The home at bottom right has been swept cleanly away, its debris similarly windrowed.

20.) The tornado near Athens, its massive funnel and wall cloud visible.

(Late post)

Damage photos associated with one of the strongest tornadoes to ever touch the earth. And to think, some people consider it to have been a “low-end” F5.

1.) Before-and-after image of a home and terrain in Bridge Creek. The orientation differs slightly between photos, judging by the layout of the sidewalk/driveway in each.

2.) Foundation swept bare in the Southern Hills addition in Bridge Creek. Ground scouring is visible from the top left of the image to the foreground, accompanied by extreme vegetation damage and debris littering.

3.) Foundation swept clean in Bridge Creek. Extreme ground scouring is present in the foreground.

4.) In Bridge Creek: a ludicrously mangled vehicle mashed against a denuded tree. Extreme ground scouring and mud splattering is apparent.

5.) Foundation swept clean in Bridge Creek, with extreme scouring and mud splattering apparent. Curiously, some low-lying foliage in a bed next to the foundation appears to be untouched, the foundation having possibly served as a windbreak.

6.) Foundation swept bare in Bridge Creek. Extreme ground scouring is apparent, as well as the denuding and debarking of shrubbery. An extremely mud-splattered, mangled vehicle is visible to the center left, as well as a mangled truck near center.

7.) A closer image of the aforementioned mangled truck, which has been torn in half, reduced mostly to its frame, and splattered with mud. Extreme scouring and debarking of shrubbery is visible, and the pavement in the foreground appears to have been scoured away.

8.) Swept foundations in Bridge Creek Estates, along Red Bud Lane. Extreme scouring and vegetation damage is apparent, and chunks of the pavement have been ripped away along the center of the damage path.

9.) Homes swept completely away in Southern Hills, along County St 2967, with the remaining debris finely granulated. The ground scouring is incredible, and most of the road pavement appears to be missing.

10.) Mangled and extremely mud-splattered car tossed under a culvert on Southwest 134th Street, in Moore, nearly a mile from its original location. A beam of wood impales its side.

11.) A mangled vehicle wrapped around/intermingling a stubbed and completely debarked tree in Moore.

12.) In Moore: homes destroyed in Eastlake Estates, with some swept away. Extreme ground scouring and debris granulation is visible.

13.) Mangled vehicles and an assortment of other debris deposited around debarked trees in Moore.

14.) The remains of a vehicle shred to pieces in Bridge Creek, with a piece of the frame and other bits plastered against low-lying vegetation.

15.) In Moore: an expanse of devastation in Regency Park, showcasing debarked trees, mangled vehicles, and a sea of debris from homes.

16.) Vehicle amalgamation deposited in Moore.

17.) In Newcastle: astonishing mangling of a vehicle formerly parked under the 16th Street overpass on I-44. Extreme scouring and mud splattering is apparent.

18.) In Bridge Creek: remains of shredded vehicles and other debris blasted against vegetation.

19.) The tornado’s track through Bridge Creek, paralleling I-44. Deep and vast scouring of clay earth is apparent, with the widest portion at center-left, possibly over half a mile from end to end.

20.) A snapshot from infamous footage of the tornado crossing I-35, its snaking a horizontal sub-vortex as though to show off to the camera.
