Ever feel like you’ve been playing the wrong horn your whole life?

Interesting thought I’ve been having as of late. I recently came into possession of a Benge 190f (posted a few days ago about the bent knuckle) that plays incredibly. Not exaggerating when I say it’s one of the best horns I’ve ever played.

In high school, I played a Bach 42BO, and an Edwards T350 in college, that I played exclusively up until this year. I realize I was incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to play professional level instruments from a young age. Now, I’m not saying a different horn would have turned me into a professional, but I struggled big time with range on both instruments.

I was 10X the player then than I am now, however I am finding certain excerpts and solos SO much easier to play on the Benge. I am now looking into grabbing a solid medium bore to tinker around with….cant help but feel like I’m 20 years late on this!

Pictured here is my pristine Benge 190F. Well, outside of the bent valve under the rotor. I took this to a local tech and they were reluctant to bend it back into place too due delicate area of tubing.

My question is, is this something that will likely crack after continued use? Wondering if I need to take it somewhere else and see what the cost of a permanent fix will be, assuming it will be pretty pricey. Otherwise it plays great like you’d expect out of this horn.
