This summer, I will be teaching a new Gen Ed: C course (writing credit), offered for the first time after being approved this spring: Narratives in Metal Concept Albums.
The course focuses on how metal music constructs narrative worlds through its lyrics, themes, and album structures. We will analyze tracks and albums by bands such as Lamb of God, Cradle of Filth, and Carach Angren, examining how they engage with history, mythology, and contemporary issues.
This is an asynchronous online course, which means there are no live meetings. You can complete the work on your own schedule, making it a flexible and relatively low-pressure option for the summer term. At the same time, it fulfills a Gen Ed: C requirement, with a strong emphasis on developing clear, analytical writing through structured assignments.
If you are interested in music, storytelling, or simply want a different kind of writing course, this is an opportunity to engage with material that is rarely explored in the classroom.
