My wife was starting dinner and preheating a cast iron skillet. She used the largest burner and set it “3” for ten minutes like she always does. Pan caught fire for some reason. Used a laser thermometer to get a temp reading and it was almost 700 degrees. The medium sized burner to the left, set at “3” was only showing 275 degrees.

Maybe the dial switch went bad? Are these known for that? Any similar experiences? TIA
