I’m working on my marketplace 385 SBC, and I noticed the bottoms of the rods have been ground down. I’ve heard you’re supposed to clearance the 350 block for the longer stroke crank on these stroker builds, and I’m thinking instead of doing that, maybe the last guy clearanced the bottom of the rods. Do you guys think that’ll cause a balance issue?

This is a marketplace 383 I got a few months ago, and I’m thinking the last guy got a pry bar under the head to take it off and scratched the deck. Old head gasket has pry bar damage in the same place. Doesn’t seem deep though. I’m frustrated at myself that I’m just now noticing this, considering I’ve spent the last couple days gapping rings after work. How would you guys deal with this? Does it need to be decked?
