Like everyone else who loves Ken Russell's masterpiece The Devils, I'm excited beyond belief that we're finally getting a new restoration with some of the missing footage added back. As far as I know though, we still have those strict blasphemy laws in Ireland, I seem to remember about 10 years ago there was supposed to be a theatrical release of Louis Theroux's doc 'My Scientology Movie' and that was cancelled because of the laws. With a film as tame as that about Scientology not being shown, surely something as blasphemous and against the Catholic church as The Devils wouldn't stand a chance of getting shown here.
By the sounds of things, a physical release should be on the way after the theatrical showings but it would be a serious dream come true to see The Devils uncut on the big screen in Ireland. Does anyone know if we stand a chance of seeing it here? It's an interesting discussion I feel anyway, for all the talk of Ireland being such a different country from back in the day, the catholic church definitely still has a massive hold over us.
Edit: completely forgot the blasphemy laws were changed, still think it's an interesting convo to have though whether we will get a theatrical release or not.
