To those saying Cyclops can't be a tank as his powers have nothing to do with tanking
I've seen a lot of this sentiment around recently, with the recent push to see Scott as a tank rather than add another poke DPS, saying that Cyclops couldn't work as a tank as he has no durability powers. Though I'd argue it's even easier and in character to build a vanguard kit for Cyclops than for example, Gambit as a strategist.
Rather than give him some weird laser shield, you can simply make his main peel mechanic a DVa style defence matrix where he outright vaporises incoming projectiles.
With his optic blasts being concussive, one ability can easily be a close range blast that stuns enemies.
He can also use his optic blasts to move around quickly, allowing him to engage and disengage from the front line.
Finally, his ultimate could not only do damage, but provide a massive blinding effect as another form of cc.
All that being said, he's 100% going to be a DPS however, his power set could work as either role and I say this as a tank main that would love to see him as a tank.
EDIT: I'm honestly amazed at how so many comments completely misunderstood what I said or just clearly didn't read the text I posted along with the videos.
At no point was I even suggest Cyclops should or shouldn't be a DPS/Vanguard. The point I'm was trying to making is that in order to make a vanguards kit for Cyclops you don't even need to invent new abilities for him like how they did for Emma or Gambit to fit into their roles, when he's already shown ways in which he's used his optic blasts that could fit into the vanguard role.
The second video shows Cyclops destroying and overwhelming a blast with his own. In Rivals this would be how Scott would block damage and could work like DVa's defence matrix in Overwatch. Rather than projecting a barrier, while holding alt-fire he would destroy incoming projectiles by matching them with his own blasts.
The first clips shows how Cyclops uses his concussive blasts to incapacitate people which is how he could have a stunning blast like Hulk's exile. It also shows how Cyclops uses his blasts to quickly move around, allowing him to engage and disengage from the frontline, again a key thing needed for vanguards.
If all that when into designing vanguards was how well you see a character take a punch, than maybe the guy with a healing factor and indestructible skeleton would've been a vanguard.
