Best detangling brush? Spray?

Brand? Size? Metal? Plastic? Boar's hair? Let's discuss.

I have long hair. Duh 🙄 Probably why I'm in this group now. 😂 Hair is waist length. It is naturally curly wavy when layered up to take the weight off. I'll include an older picture to show you the amount of curl. If I brush it out while dry it ends up with ripples running up and down it. I have a lot of hair. So it is thick by quantity but the actual strands of hair are fairly fine. I have had very healthy hair without much breakage until recently. It is mature hair I'm in my '50s. I've stopped highlighting it or dying it. All of it is now my natural color which is the very dark brown with a gray rogue streak in front.

The first couple of pictures are what it was like when I woke up in the morning and had yet to brush through the tangles. But I did brush it out before sleeping. The second couple of pictures are what the hair looked like on another day when I had brushed it out after it was dry which of course just makes for kind of frizzy waves. Usually then I will spray it to get it wet and scrunch it. The next picture is just a sample of what my curls look like especially when you take the weight off the hair with layers. That was obviously a while ago based on the length but it was the first one I could lay hand to for this post. I do that because the texture of hair makes a difference.

I have tried a medium Tangle Teezer brush. It is only good for getting out smaller tangles after bigger tangles have been removed because it can't get through all of my hair's thickness. But I have seen they come in a large brush with longer bristles meant for thicker hair. I have tried the Dr. Knot brush. It has done a good job at times but then it gets build up of product around a little balls on the plastic bristle tips fairly easily and my hair will break those tips off. I tried a boar's hair brush, But that was mostly just good for smoothing hair and not getting tangles out and it won't brush through the depths of my hair. Right now I'm looking at a brush called the Mane Ready which is described as being less damaging because it has metal bristles that don't cause static or friction and don't break. It's in my cart right now. But then it suddenly occurred to me to chat on here and see what people's experiences are.

I did check some reviews online and it was listed as one of the best brushes for stubborn tangles. I asked AI and it said metal can actually be better. I would never have thought to look for metal bristles without the tips like this. So let's talk brushes and tangles. Also detangling sprays. Which ones are best that you have tried? I've tried quite a few. Some that didn't work. Some that actually did but can weigh down and build up on the hair. So I would love to hear input on this as well.

How do you remove your tangles? Do you prefer to remove them wet or dry? Sometimes I'll work through them with the brush and maybe some spray dry. Sometimes I will just get in the shower really coat it well with conditioner and use a wide tooth comb instead. I want to hear what you do.
