Hey everyone,

I’ve got an upcoming international flight with a layover in Dubai, and I’m feeling a bit anxious since it’s my first time travelling overseas solo. I was hoping to get some advice, especially from people who’ve been through there recently.

A few things I’m wondering about:

  • Disability friendliness: I’m disabled (also autistic/ADHD), and busy, unfamiliar environments can be overwhelming. How accessible is Dubai Airport? Are staff generally helpful if you need extra support?
  • Hidden disability support: Would wearing something like a sunflower lanyard be recognised or helpful there, or not really a thing?
  • Safety: How safe is it for a solo woman traveller just passing through on a layover? Anything I should be cautious about even if I’m staying in the airport?
  • Aussies travelling through: Any tips specific to Australians transiting through Dubai? Things you wish you knew beforehand?
  • General layover tips: Good quiet spots, things to avoid, how early to move between gates, etc.

I can get pretty overwhelmed in crowded or high-stress situations, so anything that might make the experience smoother (or less intimidating) would really help.

Thanks in advance 💛
