I‘m an unc pushing 40 and I’ve been playing Pokemon since I was about 9 years old. Never played competitively mostly just played the games.
Earlier this year after playing the battle tower in Pokemon Sapphire I got a bit of a taste of competitive pokemon and really enjoyed it. That planted the seed for me.
Fast forward six months and Champions comes out and im all about it, but I was sticking to singles only because I assumed doubles would be way too complex and I’d be better fit for singles. I got to Master Ball in singles a few weeks ago and was pretty excited.
This past week I finally decided to try playing doubles and to stop avoiding it and boy do I feel dumb. I love doubles so much more! I was building doubles format teams the entire time and then getting frustrated when they were mid in singles. Pelipper being an example. I had Pelipper and Archulon specifically for their synergy. In singles though by the time you swap back and forth the rain runs out and then you’re stuck with a 2 turn electro shot.
I made it to Masterball in doubles a few minutes ago and I’m kind of annoyed at myself that I didn’t start with doubles first. It’s so much more fun and fits my strategic thinking so much more than singles. I now fully understand why singles is the red headed step child. Support Pokemon in singles are cannon fodder. In doubles they are a terror.
Sorry for the wall of text! Just feels exciting to achieve something essentially decades in the making for me. One of my goals is to enter some tournaments and getting the doubles monkey off of my back will make that possible!
