I recently had a colposcopy with a new provider since mine retired. In the past, there has only been samples taken and never a biopsy cus she said that visually there was nothing concerning. The tests results usually came back unremarkable but HPV positive. This new doctor seemed nice and was explaining everything. She told me that she had to let the vinegar set for a few min. After a few min with it in, she asked if it was ok if she left the room for a few more min. I said it was fine but I thought she would take the speculum out. Does it need to stay open for the vinegar to work? My last doctor never left and the whole procedure went very quickly.
I started getting a bit nervous cus I felt trapped and I couldn't really move. The speculum was very uncomfortable and felt like it was pinching me. She came back and started observing the area and moving the speculum around a lot. I had mentioned to her that my last doctor told me I have some hymen tags and if that could be causing the pain when she moved it down? She explained what they were and said that everyone has them, not just you. That felt a little dismissive. I know speculums aren't supposed to feel great but I was in a bit of pain especially with it being in there for like 15 min.
She said that everything looked fine but she wanted to take a biopsy to be safe. After she told me, I worked myself up in my head and got a little teary eyed. After the biopsy, she scraped the hell out of my cervix and vagina. Then she took the speculum out and it was stinging like a m'fer. She gave me a pad and told me she would call me with the results. Is this a normal experience? Did my previous doctor just go easier on me or something? I got to my car and started crying. I feel like asking them to not take a biopsy next time if it looks normal.
