Homunculus Volume 3-4 Discussion
The reason I put 3–4 is that, outside of the magazine releases, the chapters in this series aren’t clearly separated. Some sites list Homunculus as having 166 chapters, while others say 61.
Either way, I’m reading Homunculus, and based on the 61-chapter numbering, I’m around chapter 21 or about halfway through the second English omnibus (vols. 3–4). I’m struggling to understand the psychological and philosophical meaning of this section.
Nakoshi and Ito are chasing a 17-year-old girl who also works as a kind of pseudo sex worker, and then a few pages later she’s in the bathroom cutting open her foot and drinking her blood, while Nakoshi starts consuming his own semen. After that, he seemingly rapes her in the back of his car.
I’m having a hard time figuring out the point or profound meaning of these scenes, and I honestly haven’t been able to find much discussion about them online.
If any fans of the series, or anyone with a philosophy background, could explain the thematic meaning of these volumes, I’d really appreciate it.
