Any manga with oceanic theme, psot apocalyptic survival, or with connection to nature
Do you guys know any finished manga that has a relation with ocean or story based in a post-apocalyptic world or has good biological world building ?
Best manga for personal growth/going through a hard time in life?
Hey everyone, I’m going through a rough and long period of depression, apathy, anhedonia, feeling useless, directionless, like a failure.. you get the idea.
I’m currently reading Real and it’s been genuinely moving, probably one of the most meaningful things I’ve read in a while.
Can anyone recommend manga with similar themes: personal growth, finding purpose, dealing with hardship that might help get through a period like this?
I was thinking about Vagabond, 20th Century Boys, The Climber, Homunculus, but I’m not sure…
I just competed BILLY BAT and am thinking of reading SBR, are there any other recommendations for a well written manga?
10 pretty good + some not so good manga I've been reading lately
Re Cervin: Fantasy seinen about a young princess with the power to summon powerful golems. The price for that power is losing a precious memory, and whilst protecting the world from a dragon she lost all memory of her father, Cervin. Promising stuff. 16 chapters scanlated so far (out of 8 volumes in Japan) so I hope it picks up the pace soon or gets an official translation. And that cover totally doesn't look like it came straight out of LotR.
Moscow 2160: Bounty hunter takes on dangerous missions dealing with cyborgs and mobsters in future Moscow, in order to buy the freedom of his ballerina lover and protect his siblings.
Innocents Shonen Juujigun (Innocent Boys Crusade): The story of a group of boys who get the brilliant idea of going on a crusade to Jerusalem. But things don't work out too well. This is seriously one of the most tragic things I've ever read, perhaps even more so than Wolfsmund. Also very explicit, this is by Usamaru Furuya after all - you have been warned!
Kijin Gentoushou (Sword of the Demon Hunter): I wrote about this one a few years back. It starts out as more of a tragedy/revenge drama, but then goes into a more episodic and lighthearted mystery series with different cases spanning a 100+ years. Still lots of murder and gore, but also some comedy and love as well, which was welcome after the sadness of Juujigun.
King of the Labyrinth: This reads somewhat like a reverse Goblin Slayer, where the bad guy monster (Minotaur) is the protagonist. To a certain degree at least. Anyway its about a Minotaur who gains the ability of levelling up and more complex thoughts, all the while slaying the hell out of the unlucky heroes it chances upon in the dungeon. Promising, but on hiatus at the moment I believe.
Keyman - The Hand of Judgement: Brutal detective/superhero seinen featuring a grumpy T-Rex police officer and a serial killer superhero. Art is American-comic inspired but very nice. The story fizzles out a bit towards the end but still worth reading.
Lili-Men: Now this is just a battle manga, with different schools of succubae (wow that's actually a word) fighting each other for... reasons. Seriously the story is pretty stupid but I love the body-horror superpowers and weird 3D + freehand style art.
Mahoutsukai to Aka no Pilgrim (The Wizard and the Red Pilgrim): Oh what a shame... this is really good but just ends in a very rushed manner after 10 chapters. Not sure if it was axed or not. Honestly I would gladly read 200 chapters of this weird tale of an immortal child and her strange wizard companion.
Mashira: Yet another manga that ends prematurely. In this case I think the mangaka just wanted to focus on another project. Or perhaps someone threw a monkey wrench into his work. Mashira is a decent enough horror manga about demonic monkeys who terrorize some trapped villagers.
Killer Shark in Another World: This might be the dumbest manga I've ever read... but I still keep reading it! It's about a country bumpkin girl that everyone hates for some reason, but who can summon an all-powerful shark beast. She tries saving the world from a demon invasion but usually ends up killing everyone else as collateral. There's a pot-smoking fairy and lots of references to movies. The last page here shows exactly what to expect. You might feel slightly dumber after reading it but that is totally normal.
Other manga I've read (not in pictures)
Jinmen: This demonic zoo animal horror started out good but the latter chapters have been getting progressively worse with bazooka wielding baboons and very bad translations (sorry scanlators I know beggars can't be choosers!)
It's Time to Go To His Stomach, OK?: Horror manga about a school of kids having to sacrifice one student a day to a beast roaming outside.
Kiichi VS: While I absolutely loved The World is Mine, I just never could get into Kiichi. And same with this follow-up, unfortunately. While TWiM was always very weird and exciting, Kiichi is just weird and... boring. Perhaps this is one of those cases where I, as a European reader, just can't appreciate the cultural references and significance of what is on diusplay in this manga at any given time.
Mother Parasite: While I enjoyed other manga from this mangaka (Suzuki Just Wants a Quiet Life/Shiga Hime) I just didn't like this at all. Kind of like a Oedipus horror with the kid from Omen.
Pierrot Man: Decent horror manga about a mangaka whose killer clown character start appearing in his own life. Only 12 chapters scanlated (out of 10 volumes) so far. The art is great, but sadly I discovered that the artist Takahashi Shinsuke had a cardiac arrest and went into a vegetative state soon after finishing the manga. That makes me really sad for this talented guy, and I pray he gets better, if possible.
And that's all folks! Till next time....
Am I the only one that thought that One Punch Man was Shonen and not Seinen
Top 10 manga of all time?
What do you think are the top 10 seinen of all time?
I’m currently reading Real and it’s amazing, I love stories about personal growth
Have you read Mohiro Kitoh's works?
I've read Narutaru years ago, am now delving into Bokurano. I love his unique stories and the weird, Elfen Lied-esque violence directed at young/teen characters. Lots of his works are compared to NGE, too.
What do you think of him as an author and/or his manga?
Netflix give us Tomodachi Game and nobody gets hurt !!!!!
Did you know you can actually request shows on Netflix?
And before you say “they never listen” LISTEN:
The internet bullied Sonic into gettig redesigned. Anything is possible.
Netflix has been throwing INSANE amounts of money at anime lately, and honestly Tomodachi Game would fit their platform perfectly. The manga is brutal and psychologically messed up (which is probably part of why it never got proper physical English releases in the first place...)
but that’s EXACTLY the kind of content Netflix thrives on. This is lirerally the same platform that blew up with Devilman Crybaby, Squid Game and Alice in Borderland.
Tomodachi game has insanely loyal fanbase, a peak story till the end, the ratings of the manga are outstanding (myanimelist: Rank #306 - Score 8.37/10, animeplanet: Rank #552 - More than 4/5, Mangakakalot: ~4,5/5, Mangadex: ~9/10) and there’s basically no proper way for western fans to even support it legally right now. Netflix picking it up would genuinely be free money..
We’ve seen old anime suddenly come back because enough people kept talking about them (for example Liar game) Doing this WORKS!
The fandom is surviving on crumbs atp but we're STILL HERE! So stop hallucinating for season 2 like tenji hallucinated for the rice balls during Friendship hide and seek and do something about it 💗 !!!

Till what chapter Desert Punk/Sunabouzu was adapted?
Finished the anime today, not a so great ending to it.
But since the manga was finished years later, probably the anime freestyled the ending because of unreleased source material.
So i want to continue, but it adapted till what part?

Kizuoibito (Wounded Man), adapted from a manga by Kazuo Koike with art by Ryouichi Ikegami (Sanctuary, Heat, Crying Freeman, Lady Snowblood etc.)
>Yuko Kusaka is a Japanese journalist sent to Brazil to do a report on the gold rush phenomenon that seems to be making many people rich from night to day. Rumors say that among the many "garimpeiros" (gold diggers) currently on the Amazon forest, there is a Japanese known as Rio Baraki. Reaching their destination, her crew member is promptly attacked and she is raped as a warning to stop their work and return immediately to their home country. Determined to do her job, she stays and finds out from the attacker that he is none other than Baraki, a white haired muscular man with a large scar on his back. Later she discovers that his real name is Keisuke Ibaraki. Once a promising quarterback, he ended up falsely incriminated by a powerful organization known as GPX.

Wounded Man is a fun(ny) one.
In under 7 minutes of the first episode, there is violence, nudity and rape with you sitting there going "what the f-". The rest of the first flavor of Wounded Man is some Amazon-setting "Raiders of the Lost Ark meet Tarzan" mixture with some added Fist of the North Star fights.
But if you manage to get through it and push on, the setting jumps around across different locations; the narrative becomes more adventurous and the whole vibe switches to some revenge-motivated action series. There's women who fall head over heels over our guy (very Bond-esque), there's creative albeit a bit goofy enemies, there's an evil corporation and there's tragedy. It becomes much more watchable and actually seems to follow a string of a story to the end.
The only subs in English available seem to be translated by someone whose 1st language isn't English but it's kind of charming and in lieu with many unlicensed OVA's of the time.
The ending songs , in my opinion, are wonderful. Instrumental jazzy tune, heavy metal one, synthwave, you've got it all. The art is consistent and the animation is solid; the charactes stand out design-wise from today's moe leads; how often do you see an adult woman with twintails like a school- Actually, let's not go there.
TL;DR if you can get past the weird mixture of everything cringey in the first episode, I think Kizuoibito is a solid OVA who would profit from some newer, more consistent subs. Supposedly the manga's better, but I can't vouch for that.
Just came across this manga today and haven't noticed anyone mention it before. It's called Shounen no Abyss (Boy's Abyss) by Minenami Ryo
Like the title says, I came across this manga today and so far I'm hooked. In short, it's about a high school boy who is dealing with a lot of shit and is starting to have suicidal tendencies. But almost everyone in the manga is fucked up in their own way. It's a pretty interesting read. I'm only on the 2nd volume out of 18, I think, but like it so far. So here's my recommendation. I hope you guys enjoy
Looking for Mangas like Vinland Saga
I finished the manga and the two seasons of the anime, and I loved the series. I even started a collection for it. I’m now looking for a new manga to read that is similar since I’m still chasing the high Vinland saga left with me. Also if anyone happens to also have manga recommendations that feature or prominently feature well written female characters that would also be a plus.
The manga that gave me brainworms
Freesia: One of the most unique and engaging seinen I have ever read (Warning: Some spoilers below)
The protagonist is schizo with ptsd and treats his murderer-for-hire job like office work. Every single character is a horrible human being. The art is stunning. Most of the time you can't tell if what you're reading is reality or just the characters going insane. I would let Higuchi ruin my life.
In a dystopian future of japan, prisons have been abolished in exchange for "Vengeance proxies" who execute criminals on behalf of their victims. The premise of the manga makes you think it'll be a story about revenge, and the ethics behind "justified" murder, but really that all takes a backseat to the character's personal stories, in the best way possible.
At it's core, it's a story about taking control of your life, and making your own choices, just in the most absurd and extreme enviornment possible, with some of the most eccentric characters to demonstrate these ideas. Half the time you can't even tell if what you're seeing is reality or not. Nearly all the characters are objectively horrible people, but just the same, nearly all of them have been abused as well. It's so painfully realistic as a whole.
Kano, our not-so-sane protagonist, wants nothing more than an "ordinary" life, meeting expectations, and being as "normal" as possible. But his dreams are impossible, given his schizophrenia, ptsd, abusive childhood, and inability to make choices for himself. In the end, his character culminates in him realizing that he indeed does have desires and things he wants, and that he can be the master of his own life. Perhaps the final scenes are confusing to us the reader, but does it truly matter when Kano is finally doing what he wants with his life? But our perspective does matter still, after all, >!why else would Kano want to talk with us?!<
It's disgusting at times. It's violent, and crude, and absurd, and confusing as all hell and yet i can't stop thinking about it, even though it's been months since I first read it. It's 100% not something i'd usually like, but it just burrows into your brain and sits there and MAKES you think about it.
Higuchi, a victim, a manipulator, an abuser, a fantastic foil to the protagonist, trapped within her own trauma and unable to escape it in the end.
Mizoguchi, a man so obsessed with being a "predator", with being above everyone else, and yet >!in the end he gets taken by surprise and killed by a little girl - because how could prey recognize or escape a true hunter? In the end, he was never one at all.!<
Freesia is definetly a more niche sienen pick, but if my review of it piqued your interest at all, please, go read it. It's not that long all things considered, and it'll be an experience you'll never forget.
