New Caregiver seems great but…

Hi - my siblings and I have hired a new caregiver directly (no agency), who seems to be very knowledgeable, but just is mysterious in that she doesn’t share a lot. Some examples:
- We were ready to hire and she told us she was giving her car to her son in a couple of weeks and would be carless - with no mention of getting a new one (right away I thought she’s waiting for us to offer her my mom’s car).
- Her 32 year old son has “back problems (vague) and she is very attached to him and he has housing and work issues. We don’t know much more but it feels odd. He has lived with her on and off but isn’t now. Painkiller addiction?
- she is renting a room in someone’s house but it has a temporary feel and she just moved there recently but did not give it as her address for the background check we ran (my mother has a separate small house which we brought up but have held off on offering to her)
- she seems to have very little money (has basically admitted it), but she has left her week days completely open so she can be available when my mom needs more care
- she didn’t work in the fall before we hired her because she was working on a “personal project” but did not elaborate beyond that in the interview. Really awkward.
There’s more but I’m struggling - thoughts??
We did call references, tons of experience, etc. but all according to her or from her. Who knows. She strikes me as someone who doesn’t want to lie but doesn’t want to tell the whole truth either. It’s driving me nuts!
Even my mom thinks she is mysterious.
AND she ran to the car the one time I picked her up. As in she was already outside - maybe she doesn’t live there?
Thoughts?
