Hello! Like many of you in the States, I’ve been trying to find a reliable website that sells a variety of Russian books and not just the classics. Лабиринт is nearly impossible to use for us at this point, let alone the crazy shipping.
Bookvoed has a large selection with fair prices and shipping. I was skeptical at first because of the amateur website design, but decided to take a chance. I included some pics to show that it is legit.
I will say, you sort of have to do some research about a book you’re looking for specifically and then search it up there by title. The site is pretty disorganized, but I’ve found quite a few gems hiding there.
Here’s a tip: if you search up читаем сами it will show you books in which every word has stress marks. I suppose it teaches Russian-speaking/learning children correct pronunciation.
Here’s another tip: Search up Настя и Никита to find the little books on pictures 3 and 4, it’s the издательство. These books are all of 20-30 pages and are intended to teach children complex topics as simply as possible. Small but powerful, as within these pages you learn so so soooo much applicable vocabulary and syntax. The book about нефть literally equipped me with the vocabulary necessary to understand the issues with oil pipeline control they’re always talking about on the news and to get advanced mid on my OPI (oral proficiency interview) exam. This will be of interest especially to those who have trouble reading сказки.
Last tip: Reading books about mental health/psychology equips you with the vocabulary and syntactical approach to having deep conversations with people. It’s interesting because at my job, the only person I can have deep, emotional conversations with is this old Russian-speaking guy because I know how to explain myself and understand his own explanations too. The more I read, the deeper our conversations can go.
I ordered from them awhile ago, but literally forgot to share this. I don’t gatekeep! Have fun!!
