I recently started working on a project for a city inspired by Ancient Rome. While I was building some of the structures, I searched the internet for reference images. After a while, I came across an article discussing the materials used by the ancient Romans. I was particularly interested in the marble and other decorative stones.
I tried out some combinations with vanilla blocks to recreate the effects of those materials. By working with quartz, diorite, and calcite, and even incorporating some gold blocks, I managed to achieve some good results. Motivated by these combinations, I downloaded some building mods, such as Chisel. These mods provide many of the materials used by the Romans as actual blocks.
This got me thinking: what if we had these blocks in vanilla Minecraft? Since the game's development now follows the "drops" system, I thought it would be great if they released a future drop focused on this theme.
Beyond adding many new rocks as building blocks, it would be the perfect opportunity to:
- Complete the sets for diorite, andesite, and granite.
- Give calcite its own full set at last.
- Expand existing sets, such as stone and deepslate.
Furthermore, these rocks could enrich caves and mountains. For example, marble could generate in very high mountains, requiring players to create actual quarries. Other features I would include in this hypothetical drop are plaques and a system for statues. In my vision, plaques are simply signs made of various stone types, while statues could be an improved, more advanced version of armor stands. These are my ideas for a possible new Minecraft drop. I hope you like them!
