Number of the Beast
“Speak of the devil” Justin says this referring to Tucker on episode two of G&G just after the 20 min mark. I hadn’t caught that before and truth be told I’ve only watched it few times vs countless readings of the book. But this lines up with something else that I caught a while back when I was first learning to “metal” detect the book, which is to say finding hidden rock and roll references.
If you do a keyword search on the book for the word “six” you will find two chapters with three instances. The Prologue and The Bronze Beast. The old saying speaks to the superstition about the power of naming something as if to summon it. In the Prologue we have the naming of the truck “The Beast” and in The Bronze Beast “…we finally christened the beast “Tucker.””. Fitting that he should use the word “christening” here.
In the Prologue we are talking about six years, and in the Bronze Beast we have six miles. These are both ways that we measure age and by extension time. Vehicles are measured in age of course, but what anyone really wants to know is the mileage.
So what do we do with it? I can’t say. Perhaps there is a distance or elevation clue here. Or perhaps it’s a nod to the methodology of “metal” detecting. Justin isn’t the “optimistic amateur” he was six years before the summer of 2018 when he had a new theory about Iron Springs. He was no Iron Maiden at that point. Just wanted to put this out there and see if anyone else has their noses running. Happy Bicycle Day tomorrow to all who celebrate and be sure to listen to Rosetta Stoned and think about Tyler getting his car stuck on the end cap. Don’t get caught micro-napping standing up.
