Have you ever read a book in translation, then later opened it in the original and felt that it was almost a different book?
I’ve started to realize that reading a translation can feel like reading a retelling by another author. Even a great translator still chooses the words, rhythm, tone, humor for you.
In the original, you feel the author more directly. You notice how the sentences are built, how the characters really sound, and what kind of voice the book has.
Of course, my language skills are still limited. I often need dictionaries or reading tools - from Kindle’s built-in dictionary to apps like Readlang or LinguaRead, where AI can explain words in context.
But even with these pauses, reading in the original feels different. A translation opens the door, but the original lets you hear the author’s real voice.
