Looking to switch from Dell to an Alternate Computer Vendor

We’re currently a Dell shop and are starting to evaluate whether it makes sense to switch computer vendors.

Last year, Dell informed us that we would no longer have a dedicated account rep and instead would need to work primarily through distribution channels. Since then, our overall experience has declined. It's harder to negotiate with the reps, and responses are much less timely, which matters greatly given the current state of hardware availability and price increases. On the whole, the relationship feels much more transactional than it did previously.

At this point, we’re exploring whether it makes sense to move our endpoint business (laptops/desktops) to another vendor such as Lenovo or HP, though we’re open to other suggestions as well. For servers, we’ll likely remain with Dell for the foreseeable future.

For those of you that have made the switch:

  • Was it worth the lift? Any major grievances?
  • How has the partnership compared?
  • Any noticeable differences in pricing? Quality of the hardware?
  • How do the technical support channels compare?

If you've considered making the switch, but haven't yet, what are the major obstacles that have stopped you?

Would love feedback from MSPs or internal IT teams - thanks in advance!
