Hi all,
I’m trying to figure out what’s going on after a filling and would appreciate some input.
Background:
Small cavity filled at the top rear right hand side( I belive its teeth 16 is wat the dentist said) -4 weeks ago
Was told cavity was very small (not clearly visible on X-ray, only visual)
Symptoms since filling:
Persistent pain that hasn’t improved over time
Sensitivity to cold and hot
Cold sensation lingers longer than normal
Heat also triggers discomfort
Pain is generally dull/pressure-like, not sharp like a typical cavity sensitivity
Hard to pinpoint exact tooth — feels like a general area / above or around the teeth
Occasionally wakes me up at night (not consistently but has happened)
Pain is manageable with OTC painkillers (taking \~2–3 times a day)
Additional notes:
No real pain when biting down
Pain feels more “deep” or “numb/pressure” than sharp
Doesn’t seem to be improving with time
My concern
I’m unsure if this is:
normal post-filling sensitivity
a bite/occlusion issue
pulp inflammation
or something like referred pain / jaw muscle involvement
Question
Does this sound like something that can still settle, or is it root canal territort which I am very concerned about
Also wondering if I should push for:
bite adjustment
cold/heat tests
or further imaging / evaluation
Thanks in advance
