I wear black because I want to (mostly)
So I went to have a dress altered for a red carpet event by a seamstress who I know personally, because she’s married to one of the musicians I work with. (I’m his boss, you could say. )
The dress is tulle, maxi length, a beautiful muted purple/pink color. I needed it altered to fit my chest. I love it but as always, everything fits well except in the bust. So I have to pay someone to fix it - as usual.
The seamstress said - in front of her assistant and my husband - “Oh! Finally you’ll be wearing something that’s not black. I know you always wear black because you feel uncomfortable with the size of your boobs and your body and you think it will make you look smaller and slimmer. It really makes no difference what color you wear, you look good, the same size in every color!” Like almost a backhanded compliment?!
Not gonna lie. This made me feel like crap. I actually cried afterwards about it to my husband (I’m 52 years old). He said not to listen to that woman, that she’s sleep-deprived, chaotic and rude.
I know my boobs are big. I hate them. But I have worn black since the 90s when I was a size 2. So no, I’m not hiding. Black clothing is my thing.
Nobody asked her opinion. Why are people so insensitive? 😞
