While on the way to work i just noticed a thread on r/RWBY asking about a hypothetical scenario of Ironwood from RWBY and Cecil from Invincible being swapped around.
And oh my god is it just insanely funny how all of the people who decry Ironwoods actions and talking about their morality are lining up to glaze an EVEN MORE RUTHLESS and immoral version of Ironwood, just because its not Ironwood. It perfectly illustrates the point that many others, including me have made, that the RWBY FNDM pretends to cafe about morality, but in reality their only concern is if someone opposes or works with the protagonists of the show.
Cecil has hired super-villains to work for him, he uses reanimated corpses of soldiers as a way to protect earth, he (for the most part) extends the hand of "redemption" to people he can control and has even installed bombs in the heads of some (Waller style).
If Cecil was in RWBY, Fria would be dead long before the protagonists get to Atlas. He would not like it, but he would to it to get a new maiden training Asap. The Aura transfer machine would be researched even more and more Pseudo-Pennies would have most likely been created. Penny would instantly have a failsafe installed and her head blown up the instant any hacking would show up. Cecil would DOUBLE DOWN on military tech and equipment and would exert influence to get corporations like SDC under his control, if not under Jacques then by assasinating him and putting a puppet in place.
The main aspect of Ironwood is that he is barely capable of being ruthless and almost every decision he makes that the FNDM decries as evil is anything but. His actions might have failed at times, but until him becoming a villain by the writers, thdy were not outright immoral.
Cecil would be more effective in RWBY, yes. But he wouls be effective because hes more immoral and would do things that if Ironwood did them, the FNDM would instantly consider him a villain.
The difference between Ironwood and Cecil besides their morality is that Cecil is writen competently whereas Ironwood isnt.
But again, its reaaaaal funny how the point so many of js have been making is validated.
For all the bluster in the RWBY FNDM about how they think Ironwood is an authoritarian and evil fascist, about how anyone who thinks Ironwood was written badly is a "bootlicker". Its funny how those same people will shine the boots of an even more ruthless dude to a shine just because he isnt Ironwood and they believe that team RWBY would work with him.
We already knew that was the case because of how many times RWBY fanatics have argued that Ironwood is bad BECAUSE he didnt take power for himself to eradicate racism/stop SDC, (Showing that they dont give a shit about authoritarianism as long as the person in charge does what they want.
These same people could not handle Ironwood closing down the borders and chastising Jacques when he complained and have argue ad nauseam how Ironwood shooting him while in Jail was evil. They are now gleefully discussing how Cecil would have shot Jacques, took over SDC and be based for it.
I have to day, this has been a really nice morning seeing how part of the FNDM have so openly proved themselves to be full of shit. How they arent anti-authoritarian, they just dislike how Ironwood opposed team RWBY and how he didnt take actions that the FNDM would have loved.
Its also extremelly funny how due to this same logic they REFUSE to even consider that characters like team RWBY or Robyn would reject Cecil. These characters could barely handle Ironwood, they would look at Cecils Reanimen and would instantly turn against him. But somehow, in their minds team RWBY would work with Cecil because...... Hes not Ironwood i guess.
There is even a guy arguing that Cecil would not keep Adam alive under his control while doing the usual "hes a groomer" schtick, while also downplaying Anissa, A LITERAL RAPIST.
At the end of the day , the FNDM will treat even the biggest villains with kid gloves if they like or the protagonists like those characters. While they will villainize anyone they or team RWBY dislikes.
Also, the infinite glaze and treating Cecil as this Batman like figure that would instantly fix everything and would instantly know all of Salems/Cinders plans is really funny. I like Cecil, but he isnt perfect, the fact that people put him on the level of instantly solving all problems and Ironwood instantly failing just because they hate Ironwood that much is infinite amusement. Its death battles level of "i like character x so im going to pretend hes amazing and i dont like character y so im gonna treat him like a bum".
"He would love team RWBY and make them supersoldiers and instantly stop Cinder and Salem by instantly knowing their plans because hes so cooooool!", fucking christ, never knew that spiteful glazing was a thing.
Meanwhile with Ironwood they go "Ironwood is big poopyhead, would instantly die because hes stupid poopyhead, nobody likes him and would betray him because he is stupid poopyhead, he would be evil and paranoid and evil and big poopyhead so he dies!"
People cant even pretend to do any kind of legitimate analysis due to their spite.
