Anyone else realize gentle cleansers actually work better for oily skin long term? 😅
I have oily + slightly sensitive skin, and for YEARS I thought if a cleanser didn’t foam properly, it wasn’t cleaning my face.
For around a year I used The Derma Co 2% Niacinamide Cleanser. Recently switched to a lotion cleanser (Moiz) after my dermat mentioned my skin barrier looked irritated from over-cleansing + actives.
Honestly didn’t expect it to suit oily skin at all.
My skin type:
- Oily
- Gets whiteheads easily around nose/chin
- Acne-prone occasionally
- Humid weather makes me greasy super fast
With Derma Co:
At first I loved how “clean” my skin felt after washing. It definitely controlled oil initially.
But after long-term use I started noticing:
- Tight feeling after cleansing
- Face becoming oily again very quickly
- Mild stinging whenever barrier was irritated
- Skin always felt kind of “worked up” somehow
Not saying it’s bad btw — I think it probably works well for people with very resilient oily skin.
Then I switched to Moiz Cleansing Lotion and the first few days were SO weird 😂
No foam.
No squeaky-clean feeling.
Felt like I was applying cream instead of cleansing.
I genuinely thought:
“There’s no way this is removing oil properly.”
But after 2–3 weeks:
- Skin felt calmer overall
- Less redness
- Oil production actually became more balanced
- Face didn’t feel tight anymore
- Acne looked less inflamed somehow
Biggest surprise: my skin actually became LESS oily during the day once I stopped trying to strip all the oil off.
Now I’m wondering if I confused “tight/stripped” skin with “clean” skin for years 💀
I still use micellar water first if I’ve worn heavy sunscreen outdoors though, because lotion cleansers alone feel too mild sometimes.
Would love recommendations for:
- Lightweight moisturizers for oily sensitive skin
- Non-greasy sunscreens
- Or if anyone else shifted from foaming cleansers to gentler cleansers and noticed a difference?
