Help with an kind of urgent and possibly dangerous situation.

So I have recently moved into a house that was previously occupied by someone who thought himself quite the handyman... he was not.

A few weeks after we moved in i noticed the toilet kept backing up and leaking out of the pipe where it attached to back of the toilet. We called a plumber in and he said he'd replace the connection. I go downstairs and after a while I hear sawing.... then water, lots of water, leaking through my kitchen ceiling over everything. Naturally it was from the soil pipe, and was not clean. He cleaned up woth a wet vac and sanitizer wipes then just left saying leave it to dry for a day or two.

Now a day later the house stinks and it's knocking me sick, the plumber sent a quote saying the previous owner botched the soil pipe and thats what cause the leak when he tried to fix it and it would cost 850+ vat to fix it properly.

What i want to know is how bad is it that all this foul water leaked through the bathroom floor and what should I do about it? I'm a new homeowner and haven't got a clue if i'm being honest. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
