Hi folks, some of you may recognise my work with full campaigns being released for free on this subreddit, and to those of you that do; the fuck you doing remembering me, go play your crusade. However there's some concerns about the future of crusade as a fully supported format for 11th edition and there's some good and some bad to take away from what the unboxing.
First and foremost, there is not native support for crusade in what was shown. This is an important thing to verify, because it's true. They didn't mention crusade rules at all, and did show off that narrative deck thing instead. However, it is important to remember that the box is designed for new players. We as experienced players (or even those with an existing army) are looking at the box for the rules, the models, and the new tactical deck. GW is looking at it as a way to sell 40k to new players. There's a lot of admin in crusade and I wouldn't want to sell people on 40k by throwing a spreadsheet at them. It's very likely we're not going to see direct support from just the box content, just as it wasn't in the 9th edition box.
10th having a crusade book in the box is extremely new, and some folks may not realise that in general, GW has not directly supported narrative play basically ever before crusade play. The closest you get is the suggestion that you have a GM for games back in Rogue Trader. Even then, if GW doesn't produce rules or books, I personally will try to keep the rules flowing and if I can will provide documentation for you to do it on your own because that seems like a good idea. GW can and will make changes to the game, some of us remember 2nd and 3rd edition (yes, I am in fact that old) and are glad for those changes, but as it stands GW has said that all the rules in your codex (and the errata) are usable in 11th until your codex, and your codex has Crusade rules in them.
So do not give up hope. Doing so is a tacit admission that you can only play using the rules GW gives you, and this is a casual format so we don't have to listen to them at all. My own crusade group has it's own errata, custom units, and much more in spite of GW, not because of them. Don't let the bastards grind you down, keep your chin up, your upper lip stiff, and carry on making cool things.
