Character i would like to talk about is Vinsmoke Sanji from anime and manga series "One piece". Even when he first arrived, despite showing his good qualities(THAT I FUCKING WISH YOU, EICHIRO ODA, HELD ON INSTEAD THE BULLSHIT YOU HAVE DONE), he have started showing the signs of things that have made him insufferably terrible—the fuckass misoginy(yes, i know what does this mean, and i have said what i have said, and i WILL elaborate throughout it).
His "funny character quirk", that everyone in the one piece's main cast has, have made him absolutely unwhitstandable, and every single time he is getting mentioned with any form of respect(that he doesn't deserve at all) makes me burn in anger.
People try to defend this piece of shit by saying "B-bu-bu-but it's actually him showing respect to women!!!". Ex-fucking-cuse me, RESPECT?! WHERE THE FUCK HAVE YOU SEEN RESPECT IN ANY OF HIS ACTIONS?! All that "i will not hurt a woman in any situation", even when the woman is trying to fight him, is, in fact, showing the massive amounts of disresoect, not willing to fight a person just because of a thing that got assigned from birth. Also this does NOT work,since he had shown MULTIPLE forms of showing disrespect to women. For instance, he directly claimed that he wanted the invisibilitt devil fruit(devil fruits are the main sources of supernatural abilities here) JUST BECAUSE HE WANTED RO SNEAK IN WOMEN'S SHOWERS. And, when he got simmilar possibility of turning invisible via high technology, FIRST FUCKING THING HE DID WAS JUST THAT. Also, it does not even change in any better side throughout the story, and, in fact, is getting even worse after the timeskip with him getting LITERAL NOSEBLEEDS FROM PRETTY WOMEN. I have genuinely tried to ANYHOW show ANY form of respect as i have been watching One Piece, but i have already accepted it—i can't. He is fucking irredeemable. So, to any of his """"""""fans""""""""" trying to pose his behavior as respect for women—i genuinely think that with the kind of logic like yours you could make Addie of Austria, the kind and loving famous Austrian painter, sound like a hero and innocent, righteous and morally justifiable person. Also, the fact that it was gotten into his head by that one legged guy(Zeff i believe) who was his spiritual father does not excuse him for doing so, the situation of how the person were raised maybe, sometimes, in some circumstances, may EXPLAIN the person being shitty, but does not EXCUSE them. Yes, he may have been his ideal and the person who taught him everything he knows, but the respect to one person influencing the way you live your life and interract with other people in such great form as Sanji's is at the barest of the barest of the barest minimum is very concerning, at the maximum is awful, stupid and kinda shit person behavior.
And it gets even worse, because, exploring this stupid fuckass "funny character quirk", Oda makes him involving into gushing over an underage person AT LEAST TWICE THROUGHOUT THE SHOW(Nefertari Vivi and Charlotte Pudding). People may try to defend the second case with the fuckass useless meaningless argument that he was "forced" to do it, but he had clearly shown that he liked it, and anime and manga clearly approved it.
Worst part about this character-ruining gag is not the gag itself, which is still the fuckass bullshit, BUT THE FACT THAT HE WOULD BE COMPLETELY FINE WITHOUT IT—there are many, MANY interesting parts of his character that Oda could explore. The fact that he fears bugs, the fact that he cares about hygiene and his apperlarance, his principles about cooking, his smoking problem. Those parts were explored few times, yes, but Oda still have chosen his fuckass character's main gimmick to be horribld, insufferable, awful, shitty, irredeemable person. Sometimes i tend to imagine Sanji without this character trait, and oh gosh, how perfect does it feel. Without it, he would be inarguably unquestionably the best person in the entirety of the series, perhaps in the top of my most liked characters ever. And it makes me unbelievably angrier remembering that, in reality, he is who he fucking is.
And it isn't like there is some "insufferability budget" in the main cast that would have excuse him of being the way he is—take Zoro, for example. Yes, he is very selfish, prideful and a bit of n asshole, but he is still overall normal person, and his "funny character quirk" is JUST FUCKING GETTING LOST A LOT, WHICH IS SUCH A FUCKING TINY THING COMPARED TO SANJI'S MISOGYNY ROOTED IN HIS VERY CHARACTER. And others too, they don't have their quirks such awful as Sanji's.
So, to summarize, Vinsmoke Sanji, you, dipshit asshole, i don't hate you for your character as much as i do hate you for the person you could have been if your writer got rid of just a single thing about you as a character, but this thing is so big that it makes any scene you participarte it completely unwatchable.
