I'm fighting the boss for Duello, specifically the halberd version, and for the life of me it feels like the parrying is the most inconsistent, nonfunctional thing ever. Is this normal and im just bad?

Hello! I'm on the Torment Stag quest, and Im trying to solve the puzzle with the stag statues, and whenever I press the Spectral Sight button, nothing happens? How can I fix this?
