Getting past repair assistant with an aftermarket oled

The original screen is completely broken and has really bad ghost touch issues.

I managed to get a display working using an HDMI-to-Lightning adapter, but the ghost touches are so extreme that I can’t get through the Repair Assistant at all.

I tried working around it by connecting a USB hub. I went from HDMI to Lightning, then used a Lightning-to-USB-C adapter into a USB hub, hoping I could connect a mouse since the touchscreen is basically unusable.

But for some reason, the HDMI display stops working somewhere between the Lightning and USB-C connection.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Or is there another way to get past the Repair Assistant when using an aftermarket OLED screen?
