iPhone 16 randomly malfunctioned, is it hopeless?

Hi, for context I have an iPhone 16 that was purchased in June 2025.

I haven't had any issues with it at all, and I charge it every night with a 65W USB-C laptop charger.

Two nights ago, I moved back to my university town to my place (where there were no prior issues with charging before), and the first night my phone charged perfectly fine. The second night (which was last evening), I noticed that my phone started overheating and the battery started depleting while I was charging it. I was on a FaceTime call so I hung up and let it cool down, and when it did, it continued to die on the charger so I just took it off and it eventually fully died in my pocket when I went out for a walk.

I came back from the walk, put it on a wireless charger. It was fully unresponsive, the first 30 minutes there was still the battery logo that would pop up when I would hold the side button. I came back to it another 40 minutes later, now just a black screen. Tried to force restart, nothing. Then, I switched the power source to a portable and it still was just the black screen. I called it a night and just put it on some random USB-C cord I had with some hope left, and woke up and my phone was of course, unresponsive.

In the morning, I went to the Apple Store. They ran a test on my phone and told me that the currents weren't going through the port at all, but there was no water damage detected? Then, they put it on one of their wireless chargers & it was game. It didn't work. The cherry on top is that my phone isn't backed up either and my SIM card is locked! Just amazing!

The email I received from Apple:

Proposed Resolution: Replacement mid system

^^ The employee explained to me something along the lines of that they want to take apart my camera, back glass, and display, and replace the inside or something. I didn't take much from it but apparently its an internal issue, which I myself highly doubt since everything leading up to it pertained to the battery.

Has anybody else had an issue like this before? Sure my phone had some water exposure throughout the week (pool party, near shower), but no crazy drops or anything. This was so abrupt. If something similar like this did happen to you before, how did you fix it? Feeling so lost right now.

TLDR: Less than year-old iPhone 16 was working perfectly fine, suddenly starts dying on charger, dies on its own, and is completely unresponsive (Genius Bar dude couldn't even revive it).
