Unpopular Op: Boyd is a horrible person
I honestly hate Boyd. I know he’s a fan favorite, but to me, he’s a despicable human being.
People praise his "empathy," but look at the way he handled the Box. He created it in the first place just to impose his authority through terror. There was no situation that justified creating such a cruel execution method, and when he "receded" or showed hesitation, it felt like pure manipulation—a way to look like a hero while being the one holding the axe.
And now he’s threatening Elgin with the Box? It’s pathetic. He’s a massive hypocrite who demands respect from everyone but only actually cares about his inner circle. If you aren't part of his "club," you’re just a pawn or a burden.
He acts like the citizens are children who don't have the "right" to know the truth, even though he isn't even the one who has discovered the most about the place. People like Jade, Tabitha, and Victor have done way more heavy lifting regarding the mysteries. Boyd just swoops in, gatekeeps the information, and shuts everyone else out.
Honestly, I think he’s actually comfortable in that place. In the real world, he’d just be a retired man dealing with his illness. In the town, he gets to be the "Commander" with zero accountability. He doesn't want to save the town as much as he wants to be the indispensable Messiah of it.
