How to do a solo road trip through Britan?

Hi I'm Fredi,

I'm from Germany. I'm finishing my studies in a few weeks and will have some free time afterward. A few years ago, I did a road trip through northern France in my car. Since I now have more time, I wanted to visit the other side of the Channel. I want to do this relatively spontaneously and without a plan. Last time, I just had a tent and my car and drove from campsite to campsite in France, staying very cheaply without a real plan. That worked out really well.

Now my question for you: What's the best way to approach this? What should I pay attention to? What's the cheapest way to get to the island, either by Eurotunnel or ferry? And do you have any tips regarding accommodation? Can I just go with the flow like I did in France, or should I book in advance? Do you have any other must-see sights?

My trip should last 2-3 weeks, and I'm traveling directly from Trier, Germany. Price isn't really an issue; I just want to keep it as cheap as possible.

I'd really appreciate your help.
