my parents were born in china, and i (14) was born and raised in america. i speak fluent english, and at home we speak cantonese. the problem is, i am not fluent in cantonese at all, and another problem is, i am completely unable to read or write any chinese. i was never taught directly how to speak, write, or read, so anytime i talk, it is purely based on what i have heard throughout my life. (i pronounce some words wrong without knowing).

now this i feel is kind of crazy, but they expect me to also speak Hakka, Shanghainese, and Mandarin alongside canto. most of my relatives don't speak english, so it is very hard to communicate with them. I can only understand simple phrases, and even so i cant speak it. how should i learn these languages?
