Hi everyone, I (26f) was going to get a wisdom tooth extraction today but it was cancelled because my dentist recommended that I should get a root canal done on one of my front teeth.
For context:
When I first did my x-ray, my dentist noticed that one of my upper left teeth had some bone loss to it. She asked me if I had braces (which I did) and told me that sometimes when people get their braces, your tooth can lose some bone tissue(?) around it. She told me that it shouldn’t be a problem unless I have severe gum loss and that we’ll be keeping an eye on it. Soon after, I started experiencing some inflammation in the gum area of that tooth. I thought I could just wait till I had my wisdom teeth extraction to address it.
A month later (today), I go to my dentist and told her about my gum inflammation and she recommended that I should get a root canal. She said that she could try to also add some more structure in that bone loss pocket(?) and also it would help stop the bacteria from entering that area as well. She also had me take another x-ray of that area and said it was weird.
I’m really scared because dental procedures in general really scare me and even when I knew I needed to get my wisdom teeth removed, I was still shaking just sitting in the chair.
Could someone tell me how their root canal went so I could somewhat ease my anxiety? Also is this standard practice?
I’m also really sad and frustrated because I went in knowing that I needed to extract my wisdom teeth and I came out with none of my teeth extracted and instead need to get a root canal :’) AND I have to remove 5 teeth in total, 4 wisdom and 1 random extra tooth that decided to grow next to my wisdom teeth. (My wisdom teeth extraction is also going to be split into two parts, so today was suppose to be my left half and then I was going to go back in two weeks to extract my right half).
