Tank upgrade pls help
Hi friends, I need some advice.
My turtle has one of those floating foam basking platforms, and he’s been biting the corner of it. Today I noticed a pretty big chunk missing. Could this mean he’s nutrient deficient, or is he maybe just bored? Right now I feed him turtle pellets, an insect blend, and dried shrimp twice a day in moderation because I’ve read they shouldn’t have too many insects/shrimp. I don’t give veggies very often because he usually ignores them, but I’m thinking about trying again.
I got him in October, and he’s about 4–5 inches now. He currently lives in a 20-gallon tank, and since he’s growing so fast, I want to upgrade either the tank or the basking setup. I’m not sure which would be the better option.
My choices are either:
- upgrading the entire tank setup now Or
- just upgrading the basking platform for the time being.
If I only upgrade the basking platform, I could either buy one or build one myself. The problem is that most of the basking platform + lid setups I’ve seen online seem to only fit 40-gallon tanks.
If I do upgrade the tank, what size would you recommend? What kind of filter should I get? And would it be better to use an in-tank basking platform or one that sits above the tank with a ramp?
