[Chicago, South Loop] Someone left a turtle in the alley behind my apartment 😭

Hi all! When I got home from work this evening, I found a bunch of crap in the alley left by someone who’d moved out earlier today, including this little guy :( I brought it inside since it’s been really chilly today, but I don’t have any of the equipment I’d need to take care of a turtle. I don’t even have any fresh veggies to feed it 😭 Because of this, I honestly feel nervous about even keeping it overnight :(

There’s a local Chicago rescue (CLEARescue) that takes in exotic birds and reptiles, but when I checked their website it said they aren’t able to accept aquatic turtle rescues due to the amount of inquiries they receive in a week. I’m sure it’s still worth contacting them, but in the event they’re at capacity, would anyone be able to take it in?

I also tried posting this in the r/chicago subreddit, but I wasn’t able to since my karma isn’t high enough. If someone would be kind enough to cross post, I’d really appreciate it!

I’m located in Printer’s Row, South Loop, but I’m willing to make a local commute to drop this little guy off at a new home! Please feel free to message me!!

Help! Identify the escape point in my enclosure.

Crush has been a wonderful behaved turtle until last night. I said goodnight to him around 9pm, turned off his lights and made sure to push the door over where his grassy ramp sits so he can't fall off the edge. (He really RARLEY uses this area at all, but there is a heat pad so if he stays in the grass for a while he is comfortable.) When I returned this morning to turn on his lights and feed he was gone for a walk.

Crush has NEVER escaped before, only thing new is his upgraded size basking platform. He can just get through the bars of the door, but he would have to get himself completely sideways. Most likely going to be taking the grassy area away as he has almost outgrown it already.

Does my guy (or gal) look healthy?

Hi! We rescued this guy -or gal- from my stepson’s fraternity pool 4 years ago. So I still feel like I’m learning how to care for him properly, I feel like we took him in so it’s our responsibility to make sure he’s happy and healthy. I’m inserting a video just for all you pros to look at and tell me if he looks healthy! I’ve learned so much from this community and just want to make sure Kenny is happy!

Almost 12 at night and she has to lay eggs smh 🤦

As I've stated in a previous post, this is a rescue that I got, and I'm still learning. And one of the things I knew is that female reddears lay eggs, the previous owners had told me that she would just lay them in the water but tonight I caught her kicking with her. Back feet on her basking platform, so I set up a dig box for her, hopefully she lays and hopefully I'm doing this right. Any tips are appreciated.

Shell Issues

Starting off by saying that my knowledge around turtles was pretty limited when I got this turtle. That being said, I learned a lot about my 10 year old today…like how apparently he’s a girl. This turtle is a pet at my work and I had a new staff member who I’d never met before (that apparently knows a lot about turtles) ask me “What’s wrong with its shell?” Honestly, that’s a question I’ve been trying to figure out for the last year or two.

I’ve never posted here before but my hope is to figure out the best next steps to take for my turtles shell health. She’s had some problems with retained scutes over the years and during the last year-ish she’s developed a sway/indent in her shell. Nothing on her shell is soft when I touch it and there aren’t any obvious signs of rot anywhere. I think I’m starting to get on top the retained scute issues with some recent changes that I’ve made. At times, it was almost like the scutes were flaking or coming off in chunks instead of coming off as a whole like they used to when she was younger. Since making some changes, I’ve noticed some of the retained scutes are starting to gradually come off. The tail end of her shell is starting to look so much better but there seems to be a lot that are still retained in the front.

Previously, her diet was mostly pellets but I’ve been working in greens more consistently as well as some wheat germ as I read a lot of different recommendations that it would be helpful. Some of her lighting was also obstructed so I’ve done a bit of an overhaul to the basking area and gotten a new lamp with both UVA and UVB and she can bask directly without any obstruction.

Now I’m trying to figure out what to do next. The person who came in and saw her said I just need to give her calcium supplements, but is it really that simple? It’s my understanding that something like this may not 100% get better but how do I keep it from getting worse? About two years ago, she escaped from the tank which means she definitely fell a few feet to the ground but I never noticed any obvious damage upon inspecting her shell. What else can I change/do better?

Anyone keeping their RES in a frame pool like this? The cheap pond liner I used finally gave up and under $100 for 400 gallons feels like a pretty good deal

Help!

Our RES jumped out of its tank twice today and afterwards we noticed some redness & marks on the top of its head that match the shape of its shell. Are these cuts?

It's still moving fine, swimming, eating and walking around. Even attempted another climb but we scolded it back into the tank.

On that note, any idea if we have a he or she? Just realised we never confirmed

Red Eared Slider runs away when enter room

I recently got a Red Eared Slider and set up everything in the tank, but every time I enter the room when he’s on the basking platform, he immediately goes into hiding. Is this normal?

Red Eared Slider white spots

What is this white spots on my red eared slider? I just got my red eared slider 2 days ago and it has white spots on his shell(haven't tried brushing it). But it's eating and very active, I put it in a 15 gallon aquarium (with fishes) with a basking spot but he's not going up the spot since the day I got him. I just started to dry docking it atm and he's in the basking spot for almost an hour now.

We’re gravid again. My turtles has always hated the nesting box, to the point where I ask myself if it’s worth it to try setting one up again. Has anyone’s turtle actually used a nesting box to lay? If so, what were the conditions? How do you inspire her to do it?

Pic of my 15 year old lady for attn.
