TEXAS: A patient who is very psychotic on voluntary status signed an AMA. We want to pursue an OPC because she truly is very sick, not able to perform ADLs, etc. So I asked the nurse to not allow her to rescind her AMA because we want to pursue OPC for her safety. The nurse told me that it is unethical for her to not allow the patient to sign back in on voluntary status. Am I being gaslit? How is that unethical to not let her rescind her AMA in order to peruse OPC?
