This is my first Longines, first watch over $400, first diver watch and first watch with a screw down crown. I don’t want to ruin it…

I have come across some videos on youtube saying that a screw down crown must be pushed in and turned counter clockwise until a click is heard meaning the threads are engaged. Once that happens you simply turn the crown clockwise without any pressure and it eventually seals tight.

The user manual says:

“After making the settings, return the crown to position 1, then push it back in and screw it in firmly in order to ensure the watch’s water-resistance.”

Which method is best? From what I've gathered, the second method could wear out the threads even though it seems more intuitive and is what is stated in the instructions.
