The ensure consoles IP adress is part of a bigger popup saying:

“Unifi OS Direct Connect

Before proceeding, please ensure that your mobile device is connected to your unifi OS console’s network, and that your consoles IP adress is *beep*.”

I did not know where to find the consoles IP adress but I went to /unifi and logged in. There I found one IP for the gateway and one for WAN1. The IP it wants me to ensure the console has is the IP listed by WAN1.

Upstream there is a Unifi PoE and AP as part of a shared apartment setup. They have nothing to do with my system but is it interfering here maybe? Can I proceed safely?

I have a new UX7 (Unifi express 7) router waiting to be set up. I saw Ubiquiti recommended as a good brand both in general for networking and for privacy. A trusted router and company basically.

Now I explored further and learnt their privacy policy basically allows them access to a lot of information and the right to use it for almost any purpose. They do not seem to have good rep for privacy.

I am on the fence on what to do. I have heard of other solutions like mikrotik or pfsense but they seem way over my knowledge level. To the point I might well fuck it up so it ends up more insecure in certain aspects than my Unifi router. I also do not really have the time and energy for such a steep learning curve.

Is my options then between cheaper consumer routers like ASUS, TP link, Netgear vs Unifi? If so, I assume Unifi is still a better option for privacy? What is your opinion on the privacy of Unifi routers / Ubiquiti ecosystem?

Does anyone have advice for me on a fairly easy setup/maintenance wifi setup situation that is both private and secure?

As per the title I am wanting to set up my new UX7 optimizing it for security and privacy. I am new to to the Unifi OS / setting interface. I have a basic understanding of previous setting options for security in regular consumer routers, but not so much that I can simply enter the UX7 settings and know what to toggle on/off etcetera. Is there a guide for my needs?
