Least Favorite Screening Annoyances?

I’ll start:

>”We don’t do Leetcode style questions here. It’s more of a realistic practical application”

>The “practical application” turns out to be just thinly-veiled Leetcode style questions with you needing to write an extra layer of boilerplate on top.

SC Must-Sees For Solo Day Tripper?

What are (in this sub's opinion) the must-see spots in Santa Cruz for someone going on a solo day trip there?

Background: Younger guy, planning on driving in from the South Bay tomorrow. I’m into music, art and generally open to anything and has been to the boardwalk already multiple times.

Apologies in advance if this question has already been asked and answered a ton of times.

What’s the best etiquette for breaking things off without burning bridges when dealing with a third-party recruiter or recruiting agency that has proven themselves effectively useless and a time/effort waster?

I’ve been dealing with a third-party recruiter for a while now who often contacts me with roles that sound like great fits but seems totally incapable of securing even just the initial sit-downs with the HMs or anyone from the company. I’ll give them all my details and the info they ask for, they say they’ll get things set up for the first interview and then…nothing. Every single time.

I’m almost certain the issue isn’t on my end because I’ve been having no issues getting at least initial interviews for similar roles via direct applications, LinkedIn reachouts from companies’ direct recruiters and other third-party recruiters.

Is block-and-ghost acceptable here or would it be worth the effort to be more tactful and/or see about talking it over with them about how they’re doing things on their end?

What’s the general consensus on this sub regarding accelerationism as a component of ideology?

From what I’ve seen it more often than not just manifests as nihilism and hyper-individualism with extra edge.

Every unironic accelerationist I’ve seen has been laboring under the assumption that somehow the negative effects and consequences of the collapse they’re trying to accelerate somehow won’t affect them.

Most also seem to have no real concrete idea of how to move forward after they achieve the collapse they’re pushing for.

“It’s far easier to blow up and derail the trains than to get them running on time” and all that.

…and in the Biblically accurate BF2 version where you could one-tap snipe if you were real nice with it and then turn right around and full-auto shit on a motherfucker like you got a diaper on.

For context, I have shorter hair and typically don't do anything super fancy or eccentric/faddish with it.

I'm mainly looking more for places that are reasonably priced for routine maintenance like trims and line-ups rather but are still clean, consistent with service quality and barber openings/availabiltiy.

I used to go to Bishop's downtown for that stuff before they closed during the pandemic and was very happy with their haircut quality, service variety and pricing.

I tried Dandies' in Mountain View for a while but they charge at least $45 each time for any hair cutting services, didn't have great availability for the barbers that were any good and didn't offer any options for line-ups or anything less than a full-service haircut.

I've also tried Alpha Barbershop near the Lucky on Mathilda for maintenance stuff but while they were cheap, they had sanitation issues (hair left all over the floor all day and just not very clean in general. I got acne, razor nicks and bumps on my neck afterwards several times after going there) and often times did a poor job for even simple requests or misunderstood what I was asking them to do.

Does anyone have recommendations for places that fit what I'm looking for?

In the context of hiring within the industry in general, does having a custom personal website to show off your info/professional accomplishments/personal project portfolio really help you stand out that much more than just providing that info via document uploads and direct links to your LinkedIn and GitHub?

I can imagine it would obviously help you stand out a lot if you're going for more frontend-focused or webdev type roles. Do people hiring for other types of dev roles actually care that much about seeing something like that from a candidate?

I've heard mixed things ranging from that it does indeed help you stand out no matter the role to it doesn't really matter either way to it even being viewed as something of a nuisance compared to just directly providing your resume and links to your LinkedIn and GitHub because personal websites typically don't work as well with ATS tools and a lot of recruiters and HMs in the initial stages just don't have the time to manually look through your website.
