My boyfriend booked an appointment for an abdominal ultrasound, and I jokingly commented that he probably had fatty liver. For context, I work as an ultrasound technologist, and fatty liver is a very common finding, so I intended the comment lightheartedly. Additionally, we both enjoy eating out frequently and often joke with each other about unhealthy eating habits and gaining weight.
However, when I made the comment, he became upset and reacted strongly. I explained that I meant it as a joke, but he did not take it that way. We are not talking to each other right now.
