RISE Program (At Risk Youth)

Can anyone provide information on the RISE program (Reducing Instances of Suspension and Expulsion) program. Does anyone have any experience working with a full group of at-risk youth in a classroom setting?

How did you navigate it? I have experience working in low-income/“rough” schools but not assessing students and teaching for a specific program.

New OT here: I’ve been fortunate to have decent classes that I have subbed for and have only had to send down students at the request of admin to address a group of intermediate students’ behaviour. However, these were nice, just hyper kids.

As an OT, what do you do in the case of hostile students and how do you address bullying in the classroom? Do you address the situation, buzz the office and email that school’s admin so that they understand why you sent them down? I’m curious to see what you all do.

I had to address bullying with two primary students (I was warned as they constantly bicker and pick on each other) and pulled them in the hall, had a conversation with both of them individually and then made them stay in for the first 5 minutes of recess. After pulling them in the hall I gave the class a two minute lecture on “the emotional backpack” and bullying/the consequences of doing such. I documented this but I’m not sure if I should have sent them down/how I would have communicated the situation through the PA system.

As a new supply, I never got exposure to dealing with admins when it comes to rougher students in my placement. What are consequences you enforce as a supply?
