I’ve seen a lot of people talking about the personalities of the FaZe Clan players. Even though they’ve lifted trophy after trophy, many people still underestimate them just because they’re a “low profile” team that doesn’t put themselves out there in the media as much. Because of that, some people call them “boring”; I’ve even seen well-known figures like Interro saying this.
That made me stop and think about why this happens.
In Brazil, I see a lot of fans supporting them. The Brazilian community in general has gotten much closer to this FaZe roster, especially because, lately, the organization has been investing more in content creation for the R6 team, which didn’t really happen before. Because of that, I realized that the way people from abroad see FaZe is completely different from how the Brazilian community sees them.
The truth is that everyone who says this kind of thing about them is someone who only speaks English. So basically, this perception of them comes from a language barrier, nothing more. Almost everyone on the team only speaks Portuguese (except for KDS, who is very shy, so he can’t really have much influence on the international community).
My point is: if they receive support and admiration from the Brazilian community and manage to be successful in Siege (back-to-back world champions), then this view from the international community that calls them “boring” is coming from people who think everyone should speak English, which isn’t right.
This idea that English should be a standard universal language simply doesn’t make sense to me, and sometimes even leads to prejudice against other regions like Brazil and APAC. I’m sure that if some random European team with a profile similar to Faze had been consecutive world champions, many people in the international community would see them in a very different way.
