Thinking About Moving to Kenya, Would Love Honest Advice From Foreigners/Expats
Hi everyone,
I’m considering moving to Kenya initially for around 3 months, and if things go well and I’m able to find work, I might stay long term. I wanted to ask foreigners/expats about their experiences there, especially regarding safety, daily life, and the job market.
I’m interested in teaching at an international school, and I have a Master’s degree from Europe, so I’d also love to hear from anyone working in education there. How difficult is it to find teaching jobs as a foreigner? Is the market competitive? Are salaries generally enough for a comfortable life?
Also, I’m visibly foreign, so people can usually tell right away that I’m not local, and I’m wondering whether that changes anything in terms of safety, harassment, scams, attention, etc.
I’d really appreciate honest experiences from people who’ve lived there, especially women or solo foreigners. What cities or areas felt safest to you? Anything you wish you knew before moving?
Thank you :)
