Sboys3 driver - I apologise
Ok I'm dumb, I made a mistake. I was so excited about my new dream air and everything working so good I stuffed up on my last Sboys3 driver post.
The problem was that running pimax play direct gave steamvr one resolution and running Sboys3 driver gave another, Even thou I had both set at 150% in steamvr. Which I didn't notice until someone pointed it out.
I spent today testing rather than playing as I wanted to make things right.
Game - No man sky - I find this game good as it allows me to see quality differences quite easily.
Pimax Play 1.43.9 - 8.8ms - Adding sharpening did not make any noticeable difference in performance
Sboys3 1.2.0-beta0 - 8.3ms - CAS Sharpening and you take a large 1ms hit to performance.
As you can see in the photos (Sboys3 is the round one) there is no noticeable difference in quality running at the same resolution. I tried all other settings under Sboys3 and did not notice any difference. Like sub pixel and PP etc. I thought maybe the distoration profile might be considerably better in terms of resolution, but no.
Conclusion - Yes there is a gain with Sboys3 driver. Is it as large as I shot my load yesterday over. Hell no 0.5ms is not a game changer sorry about that. You still get the better warping profile and all the bells and whistles. But if you want sharpening then stick to pimax play. Anyway I'm done now, back to playing
Problems I have with pimax play. In steam menu constant jitter, fine in game. Also I'm pretty sure you can't set boundaries with the dream air. There is no camera, and the room setup can only be activated from the desktop, which tells you to put the controls and headset on the ground and thats it. So if you want boundaries you need steamvr either through Sboys3 or pimax play, no boundaries with only pimax play openxr
