What is going on?

FedEx international package with 4 pieces. All shipped together on April 17, and arrived to the US on April 21st. 3 pieces went through customs at Newark and the last Memphis. On May 5 the master package (in Newark) cleared customs and I was notified all packages were cleared. Now the package in Memphis went back to clearance in progress, with one update showing clearance delay. I’ve called customs and they have no holds on the package, yet FedEx claims its customs fault. But more recently when I’ve called FedEx they just keep forwarding me to either logistics or the go FedEx number back and forth. Literally on one call today I was forwarded 4 times before I just hung up between the two groups because either side is claiming it’s the other’s fault. I would like to have some idea of what’s been going on and I’ve had a ticket open since last week, but no one at this company can give me a clear answer. Finally one guy told me today I need to fill out a commercial invoice and send to customs, but this CS agent sends me the form for Canadian Customs, I’m so done.

Recently I posted about a package that has been stuck in “clearance in progress” for the last two weeks. After one week of waiting I began calling to see if any paperwork was needed and was repeatedly told “customs has possession it’s up to them, it can take weeks for them to clear the package”. I called again today and the story changed “oh we submitted the paper work last Friday” almost two weeks after the package arrived in the US. This pissed me off, so I asked to talk to customs.

After a few more phone calls I eventually go through to customs, got a good contact to email, and guess what the package had already been cleared. Impressively customs responded to the email in under 10 minutes.

I called FedEx immediately back was met with the same spiel about the package not being in their possession… then I mentioned I had called customs and they confirmed the package had already cleared. Somehow immediately the CS agent sees that in their system and changes the story to this should be delivered in the next day or two (I’m doubtful on this but we will see)

Why is customer service so dishonest about this process and why should I need to reach out to customs to get a real update, isn’t that their job as the broker? Also it seems like “clearance in progress” doesn’t mean jack shit, it’s just something to throw on a tracking system to avoid having to take responsibility with actually keeping things moving. Sorry for the rant just having a frustrating experience so far.

Update: 3 of the 4 pieces have cleared and made it to the destination sort facility overnight. The last one is stuck in the Memphis abyss. It went back into the “clearance in progress” cycle. And now the go fedex number is saying it’s a clearance issue, and keeps transferring me to logistics. Then logistics says it’s already been cleared and it’s a movement issue. Does anyone at FedEx actually know anything? This is either dishonesty or incompetence.

I have a multiple price shipment coming from the uk that was supposed to be delivered on a 5 day schedule April 24. For the last week and a half all 4 tracking numbers have been repeating “clearance in progress” but one of the items is in Memphis while the other 3 are in Newark. Is this causing any issue or the long delay for customs? Or is it just customs being slow?
