My poor boy, Blue, has had a rough go.
1st- fin rot sometime before Easter. hospital tank treated with antifungals. Had and still has active regrowth of fins.
Right before Easter he had what I believe is swim bladder. He just floats. Will swim down and just bob back up. I did fasting for a while, epson salt baths and added daphnia. This has lasted FOREVER... he started pooping maybe 2 weeks ago? Yay! I thought we were on the mend but he just keeps floating. During this time, I kept him in a tupper ware bowl floating in his tank for easy water exchanges and to see if he was pooping. I don't remember if I noticed the pineconing 1st or decided to treat him with kanaflex 1st because he wasn't getting better and I didn't know what else to do. Regardless I started treating him in hospital tank again with Kanaflex the 29th or 30th. He has been in there since and picture is of him today. Looking at pic from when i put him in hospital tank, his pineconing is about the same but he might be a little more bloated.
2 days ago I thought he was dead for sure. His head and tail were sinking and his belly was floating, so essentically he was in a C position. I poked him and he didn't move. I had things going on so I was going to take care of his body later on in the day but when I checked on him a few hours later, he was swimming around just fine. He still rests in the C position but has been moving around. I fed him some daphnia today and he ate just fine.
My question really is WTF do I do? I don't want him to suffer but I don't want to give up on him since he is still active and willing to eat. But he REALLY looked dead the other day... I did a good water exchange today and retreated with some kanaflex. I have asked in other aquarium and beta groups but I swear my posts are like invisible and I got ZERO responses. So any help would be great. I am wondering if I should keep trying or if its time to euthanize him.
he was living in a 20 gallon planted tank with stratum and rabbit snails.
water parameters have always been fine with latest one being pH 7, ammonia and nitrities 0 and nitrates 5
