How much information was the hunter given before the night of the hunt?

How aware is our character of the deal they make at the very beginning? I’ve read from someone that the hunter came to Yharnam on purpose to end the hunt, but I always thought the hunter was sick and came for the healing blood. Does the main character know what the hunt or the dream is? You wake up right after the opening scene in a hospital bed weaponless and try to fistfight a werewolf. That can’t have been the plan. So do they know what the deal entailed? I assume they don’t know about the great ones.

Sorry if this gets asked a lot.

In northwest Liurnia there are ancestral worshippers stomping their feet on the ground while facing a minor Erdtree and an Erdtree avatar. It’s just north of the Uhl ruins. Why are they doing that? I originally thought that it was worship, and they actually revered the Erdtrees except the main one for some reason. Is that it, or is it something else? Are they mad at the Erdtree avatar and stomping their feet at it rhythmically? I know you can find them underground stomping, which has something to do with the zombie elk you can fight, but why do it here?

What were these birds in the acedemy for? It wasn’t until this play through, where I go around taking pictures of things I don’t understand, that I actually noticed how many bird cages there are. This is a college with more bird cages than books. Most of the cages are empty. Only a few cages at the very entrance of the academy appear to have birds in them. Picture 4-6.

There are knights of the cuckoo. The very first grace in Raya Lucaria is called the church of the cuckoo. It’s actually the first thing you would see if you visited the academy. Picture 8-10. So they worshipped the birds, or just named churches after them?

In the last picture, if you remember the secret area you have to jump over the railing to climb over the roof tops to get the extra glintstone key for Thops, there are even cages there. They are just sitting on the sides of the buildings where no person would normally go. Presumably, they were tended to by the marionettes. There must have been thousands of these birds here at some point.
