Hey everyone — long-time lurker, first post here.
Background: I started out as an engineer, then moved into a Big Four consulting firm where I've been doing a mix of product work and client-facing selling. Think internal stakeholder management, solution design, and executive presentations — not traditional quota-carrying sales, but closer than most people assume.
I'm ready to make the full transition into an AE role. I know the motion, I can talk to technical buyers and business leaders, and honestly, I'm wired for it. I want to be in a closing seat.
Specifically looking at Series B and C companies — I want to be somewhere with enough structure to learn the craft properly but enough runway to actually build something.
A few questions for the community:
- Any advice for someone making the engineering/consulting-to-AE jump?
- What should I be prepared to address in interviews (objections, comp expectations, etc.)?
- Any Series B/C companies you'd recommend keeping an eye on right now?
Appreciate any insight — this community has already been super helpful just from reading threads. Happy to share more context on my background if useful.Engineer-turned-consultant making the leap to AE — tips and company recs for Series B/C targets?
