Was working on this process I created in class but can't figure out why my solenoid fires so quickly I set the preset to 20 secs and it still activates the solenoid every second.

So I've replaced what I felt I could on this mower so far with the spark plug oil change, filter, carburetor. I can get the thing to crank and starter solenoid engages and spins the fly wheel but it won't run. Then I notice this crack at the bottom of the engine that houses the oil drain plug as well. Am I screwed? We have an appt in two weeks but I don't want to waste either of our time if my engine is screwed due to this crack
